Lumber & Leaf is a timber engineering and sustainable construction studio based in Goa, working on projects across India.

The Meaning of Lumber & Leaf
The name Lumber & Leaf reflects the two complementary aspects of our work.
Lumber represents engineered timber structures — structural clarity, precision and durable construction.
Leaf represents the living environment — trees, ecosystems and site conditions that influence how buildings should be designed and constructed.
Together, these two perspectives allow us to develop projects that balance structural performance with environmental responsibility. This integrated approach is at the core of our work and guides every project we undertake.

Structural Engineering Partner
Origine Structure is our structural engineering partner for advanced timber projects. Through this collaboration we provide specialised timber engineering calculations and structural analysis aligned with European standards. Together, we are working toward the development of a Timber Engineering Consultancy (TEC) practice in India.

Training & Knowledge Exchange
Our collaboration with Compagnons du Devoir supports vocational training and the development of structural carpentry skills in India. Through this partnership, apprentices from France gain practical experience working on timber projects while contributing to knowledge exchange and craftsmanship development.

Prefabrication Partner
SBL Productions supports selected projects through precision prefabrication of timber components. When required, structural elements are CNC-machined abroad and shipped ready for installation in India, allowing high levels of accuracy and efficient on-site assembly.

Julien Lavoine Charpentiers is a French timber construction company specialising in structural carpentry and engineered timber buildings. Their work combines traditional craftsmanship with modern timber construction techniques, including timber frames, glulam and CLT systems.
About Daniel Imhoff
Lumber & Leaf was founded by Daniel Imhoff with the goal of advancing timber construction in India through engineering expertise and precise execution.
Daniel trained in structural carpentry with the Compagnons du Devoir in France, one of Europe’s most respected training institutions for traditional and structural carpentry. This experience provided a deep understanding of timber structures, structural behaviour and precision craftsmanship.
Over more than a decade of professional work, Daniel has contributed to a wide range of timber projects, from traditional post-and-beam construction to modern engineered timber systems. His experience combines practical site knowledge with engineering-based thinking, allowing projects to move efficiently from concept to execution.
Before founding Lumber & Leaf, Daniel was involved in the development of renewable energy solutions in India and contributed to the creation of Wattmon, an energy analytics platform developed in Auroville. This experience strengthened his interest in sustainable construction and integrated building systems.
Today, Daniel’s work focuses on developing reliable timber engineering solutions adapted to Indian conditions. Through Lumber & Leaf, he aims to support the growth of timber construction by combining engineering knowledge, precise execution and environmental responsibility.
